Simone Biles. Have you ever heard of her? Chances are that you definitely have. Simone Biles is an all-around floor and vault gymnast. Biles is the most “decorated” American gymnast meaning she has the most medals. She went to lead the U.S. Olympic gymnastics team nicknamed the “Final Five”. She has 19 Olympic and World Championship medals. She has emerged as a true champion in the sport.

At a young age her love for gymnastics was sparked on a field trip to a gymnastics center. She was with her day care group and noting “While there I imitated the other gymnasts, and Coach Ronnie noticed. The gym sent home a letter requesting that I join tumbling or gymnastics.” From there, Simone started her uphill to success to the amazing 19 year old she is now. In 2013, Biles became the first female African-American athlete to win gold all-around. (vault, floor, beam,etc.) Simone Biles even has her own signature move. It’s called “the Biles” and consists of a double layout with a half twist. She shares her many victories with her team “The Final Five” which consists of Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, Laurie Hernandez, Madison Kocian, and Gabby Douglas. CNN calls Biles “The Teenage Sensation” which is the perfect title for her.

Biles is the world’s best gymnast on many perspectives. Some people are calling her “the best female gymnast that has ever lived.” At the 2012 Olympics Simone Biles became the first female gymnast to win three straight World Championship medals. Biles is the first female since 1974 to win four consecutive all-around titles at the U.S national championships. Biles is also the first woman ever to be the all-around world champion three years in a row. Biles has proven to many that she is the best in the U.S. One of Simone Biles’s most proudest moments was the 2013 World Championships. “One of my proudest moments was probably 2013 Worlds,” Biles said, “because I proved to myself that I could do things that I didn’t think I could. I guess I didn’t really believe everyone when they told me how good I was, and so for me to go out there and win, I kind of started to believe it…I proved to myself that I do have the confidence to go out there and hit it like I do in practice.”

Simone Biles is sure to impress us in her upcoming competitions. Biles also has four beautiful German Shepherds. Maggie, Atlas, Bella, and Lily! It’s nice to know that world class gymnasts like Simone herself, has time for her family and her dogs! A long, restful, vacation is just what Biles needs to cool down after all her uphill to success!
