lynxAll lynx have big paws, long legs, and a broad, short head. Lynx are well known for the black tufts of hair on its ears, and for its stubby tail. Its paws are covered with fur, and they step with a “spreading toe” motion, making its paws also furry snowshoes. Canadian lynx are usually smaller than any of the other species of lynx. Lynx are usually tawny or cream, with bits of black and brown mixed into the colors of fur.

In the winter, a lynx’s fur can grow out to about 4 inches, which can help to keep it warm in the snow and wind. Male lynxes are larger than female lynxes in all of the lynx species. Lynx are nocturnal and silent, living alone or with a small group. They can climb, swim, and eat birds and small mammals, but its favorite meal is the snowshoe hare. Lynx have amazing hearing, since the ears of the lynx also act as hearing aids, and they have incredible eyesight, enabling them to see a mouse that is 250 feet away. Lynx can have a litter of one to six young, and they can live to be 10-13 years old. Most lynx can be found in either North America, Europe, and Asia.
